 The spaces in which we design are very important. They affect everything about our design process. Studios can shape how we think. If a studio is disorganized and distracting then we can be as well. Our designs won't be what they could be because of the distractions around us. The interior design studio is disorganized and could use some serious tidying up. There are two main sections of our studio that I will focus on for this post. The first section is also the first thing that people see when they walk by our studio. In a way it's the first impression of our space. The second section is one row of shelves that store our binders and heavier samples.  Section 1:            For this main entrance and storage I suggest turning it into a communal work space.  Nonwoven textile production takes fibers and essentially tangles them into a tight, compact textile. The fibers are taken through various rollers to separate out the fibers and array them on a belt. The belt eventually runs them into a big set of wheels that crimp the fibers. This allows them to tangle together more easily. The fibers are then sent through a feed that dumps them into a big storage unit with rollers and a belt on one side. The rollers slowly pick up the fibers and send them on to another part of the process that lays the fibers out and presses them together. The crimping of the fibers along with the rollers and press creates friction between the fibers. This friction keeps the fibers together, forming a sort of sheet. This sheet can be finished with an adhesive layer as an extra precaution, so the fibers separate during use. Synthetic Leather is made in a very different way.  Textiles are an important part of design. They help create the atmosphere of a room and can shape a space into whatever the designer decides. Because there are so many different uses for fabrics there are many different types, all suited for various indoor and outdoor uses. These fabrics start out as fibers and filaments, that are twisted and woven into the products we see around us. Two of these fibers and filaments are long staple cotton and technical polypropylene. Long staple cotton is a natural fiber that once cleaned can be twisted into yarn. Cotton can come in two different sizes, long and short staple fibers. Staple fibers are usually measured in inches meaning they are already fairly short but there are still different lengths. Normal staple cotton fibers are around ¾ of an inch which means when it is twisted more cotton has to be added more frequently, making the yarn thicker. As our technology and discoveries have grown and expanded, we now know that different materials and methods of production are harmful to not only us but the environment as well. While some do not consider the harmfulness of buildings to be anything serious, it is. What we do now affects the world we live in tomorrow. Many others have seen this and are starting to change the way we think about buildings and everything that goes into their creation.
